BOHS Training Courses
Apex Environmental has partnered with the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) to share knowledge with enthusiastic individuals to promote a better standard of Occupational Hygiene practices worldwide.
BOHS also promotes an international qualifications framework so students are trained to a consistently high standard recognized in all participating countries.

Phase 1 – Become a Registered Occupational Hygiene Assistant (ROHA)
Step 1: Obtain your matric certificate
Step 2: Complete the BOHS M201 – Basic Principles of Occupational Hygiene course
Step 3: Complete the Short Learning Program on Legal Knowledge for Occupational Hygiene
Step 4: Retrieve your Occupational Hygiene Assistant certification through the Southern African Institute of Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH).
Phase 2 – Become a Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT)
Step 1: Complete 6 BOHS modules (4 compulsory modules and any 2 optional modules). Have a look at our training schedule.

- BOHS M501 – Measurements of Hazardous Chemical Substances
- BOHS M503 – Noise: Measurement and its Effects
- BOHS M505 – Control of Hazardous Chemical Substances
- BOHS M507 – Health Effects of Hazardous Chemical Substances
BOHS Optional Modules (Choose any 2 modules from the list below)
- BOHS M502 – Thermal Environment
- BOHS M504 – Asbestos and other Fibres
- BOHS M506 – Ergonomics Essentials
Step 2:. While completing these 6 BOHS Modules acquire a minimum of three years professional work experience.
Step 3: Create your Personal Learning Portfolio which collects evidence that you have applied your knowledge in practical situations (these include experience records and any additional learning records).
Step 4: Obtain your ICertOH through the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS). Follow the link to see how to obtain ICertOH through BOHS.
Phase 3 – Become a Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH)
Step 1: Obtain a minimum of five years professional work experience.
Step 2: Create your Professional Experience Portfolio (this includes collective evidence that demonstrate professional Occupational Hygiene experience).
Step 3: Complete your research essay and oral examination in order to obtain your DipOH through BOHS. Follow the link to see how to obtain DipOH through BOHS.
Step 4: Apply for your Occupational Hygiene oral examination through SAIOH.
Asbestos Training
In the case of removal or repair of asbestos-containing materials, as contemplated in regulation 12, of the Asbestos Abatement Regulation, the employer must ensure that all supervisors and employees are adequately and comprehensively informed, instructed and trained in both the practical and theoretical knowledge.
Apex Environmental offers two types of Asbestos Training courses which are in accordance with regulation 3 of the Asbestos Abatement Regulation, 2020.
Asbestos Training Courses

Asbestos Training
This one day course provides employees with all the required knowledge and information to complete the asbestos removal or repair in a safe and appropriate manner. This course is valid for a period of one year where after employees are required to attend Asbestos Refresher Training.

Asbestos Refresher Training
This two hour refresher course will be available to employees who have previously completed the Asbestos Training Course.
This course needs to be completed annually and if any changes occurs to the work method, type of work and equipment used, and if deemed a requirement by the Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
After completion of these courses the employees will be issued with Asbestos Training Certificates and will be able to remove or repair asbestos-containing material.

This training course will provide employees with the necessary tools in order to:

Hazardous Chemical Agents Training
This course provides individuals with the basic introduction to Hazardous Chemical Agents in their workplace. Over the course of this training session employees will be able to understand and learn how to safely work with these Hazardous Chemicals Agents and not only protect themselves but other employees as well.

Noise-Induced Hearing Loss Training
The Noise-Induced Hearing Loss course will provide employees with the necessary information in order to understand the risk of working in environments that produces high noise levels and how to adequately protect themselves against it in order to avoid developing Noise-Induced Hearing Loss.

Hazardous Biological Agent Training
This training course provides individuals with a basic introduction on the practical and theoretical aspects that is laid out in the Hazardous Biological Agent Regulation. After attending this course employees will be able to conduct a basic risk assessment.
